Throughout its first year, Castello Barone Vineyards has been a cornerstone of our series, offering an inside look at the journey of building a vineyard and winery from the ground up. As we wrap up this series, we caught up with Scott and Elizabeth Barone to reflect on their inaugural year, the lessons learned and their vision for the future.
Milestones of Year One
The Barones consider their most significant accomplishment in year one to be their readiness at opening. Scott shared, “Having the ability to produce and age wine before we opened [allowed] us to have quality wine from the beginning. If we had a dollar for every time someone said at the end of their tasting that there is not a single wine I don’t like, we’d be millionaires.” Their unwavering commitment to quality was evident in their approach, which focused on presenting a beautiful space and wines showcasing their grape quality and winemaking style.
